Tokyo Olympic Games qualifying event for Asian continent – POSTPONED!
Please see the informaton by World Sailing below.

Dear NOCs and MNAs,

The Qualification System for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Sailing Competition has been updated by the IOC and this is now published at The changes reflect the postponement of 2021 Asian Sailing Championships qualification event.

Although you may have seen this information announced previously, this mail is notification for your records.

If you do not agree with this decision, or any other decision made under the qualification system, you must inform the World Sailing Technical Delegates (Alastair Fox and Jon Napier) within 7 days of receipt of this mail. Only the Technical Delegates are authorised on behalf of World Sailing to make decisions under the qualification system.

It is unlikely that the 2021 Asian Sailing Championships will be rescheduled before the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Sailing Competition, therefore the respective International Class Associations along with World Sailing are now negotiating with other event organising committees to host the following qualification events:

Africa Continental Olympic Qualification
Men’s and Women’s Skiff sailed in the 49er and 49erFX

Asian Continental Olympic Qualification
Men’s and Women’s Windsurfer sailed in the RS:X
Men’s and Women’s One Person Dinghy sailed in the Laser standard and Laser Radial
Men’s and Women’s Skiff sailed in the 49er and 49erFX

It is intended to host all these qualifiers in the same event and When World Sailing has confidence that a host and/or dates are secured, we will communicate this information to you.

Please do not hesitate to contact myself ( or Michael Downing (, World Sailing Olympic Manager, should you require any further information.

Yours sincerely,

Alastair Fox
Director of Events of World Sailing
