The 2014 RS:X Class AGM received 3 bids for the 2016 RS:X World Championships: Limassol - Cyprus, Hobart - Australia and Eilat - Israel. It was the decision of the Class AGM, which represents the Class members, who voted in majority to have the 2016 RS:X World Championships in Eilat, Israel.

There has been some concerns from the RS:x sailors about the safety to travel and to compete at the 2016 RS:X World Championships in Eilat, Israel on February 2016.

After consulting the ISAF office, the 470 Class, which recently had their World Championships in Israel and the local organizer, the RS:X Class Executive Committee members met during the 2015 ISAF Annual Conference in Sanya, China and made the following decision:

Eilat, Israel remains the location and partner of the RS:X class for the 2016 World Championships to be held between 20 to 27 February 2016.

If the RS:X class is forced to cancel the event due to a Force Majeure, it is the intention that the Class will look to organize the 2016 World Championships in November 2016, location to be confirmed by the RS:X Class Executive Committee with the priority of securing an event to the calibre the RS:X sailors would expect.
