Dear participant, welcome to St. Petersburg!
The Northern Capital of Russia as St. Petersburg is always named is true open-air museum that reflects the Russian history of last 300 years. With its rich heritage the city is large and lively where not only museums but clubs, bars and restaurants are abundant.
In 2019 for the first time St. Petersburg was granted hosting rights for the RS:X Youth World championship and this event promises to be really great.
The racing venue of the Youth Worlds will be Park of the 300th Anniversary of St. Petersburg that is a new complex founded to commemorate this anniversary. The Park is located on the northern shore of the Gulf.
Today it is the newest park in the Northern Capital of Russia. Currently, the Park is a part of the green zone, which includes parks as Krestovsky and Elagin Islands. The main objects of the park are the fountains, the pool and a great granite column stylized as a lighthouse which height is 22 meters.
The salinity of the water area reaches 9.2% that is why the water in the Gulf of Finland is hardly “salty” due to the fact that the flow from the rivers is very large. So the Bay is continuously supplied with fresh water making the westward current prevail. The rate of constant flows varies on average from 0.2 to 0.5 knots, in some places it increases to 0.7-0.9 knots.
From May to August winds from NW (20-30%) are often observed, from September to April – from SE (15-25 % ). The average monthly wind velocity throughout is about 3-7 m/s. In summer on the coast is well pronounced daily flow of wind velocity.
